Your First Month on a GLP-1: What to Expect, Week by Week

  • by

Starting a GLP-1 medication for weight loss comes with a lot of questions. What will the first week feel like? When does the appetite change kick in? What is normal, and what is not? This week-by-week guide walks through what most people can expect in their first month on compounded semaglutide or compounded tirzepatide, based on how these medications are typically prescribed and titrated. Everyone responds a little differently, so think of this as a map, not a promise.

Before your first dose

At Glo, every treatment starts with an online consultation reviewed by a licensed provider, who confirms the medication and starting dose are appropriate for you. Your first dose is a low “starter” dose on purpose. It is designed to let your body adjust, not to produce maximum results on day one. It also helps to know your starting numbers: you can check yours with our free BMI calculator before your first shipment arrives.

Week 1: adjustment, not transformation

Most people notice very little in the first one to three days. The most common early effects are a reduced appetite and feeling full faster at meals. Some people also notice mild nausea, burping, or changes in digestion as their stomach empties more slowly. This is expected and usually manageable with smaller, simpler meals.

  • Eat smaller portions and stop when you feel full.
  • Go easy on greasy, fried, or very rich foods in the first days after each dose.
  • Sip water throughout the day; dehydration makes nausea worse.

Week 2: appetite changes become clearer

By the second dose, many people describe food as “quieter” – less snacking, smaller portions, fewer cravings. Side effects, when they happen, often show up in the first 24 to 72 hours after a dose and then fade. If nausea is bothering you, cold or room-temperature foods, ginger tea, and slower eating all tend to help.

Weeks 3 and 4: settling into a rhythm

By the end of the first month, most people have found a routine: their injection day, the meals that sit well, and the ones that do not. Weight change in month one varies a lot from person to person, and the starter dose is doing groundwork more than heavy lifting. This is the right time to lock in habits that protect your results later: enough protein to protect muscle, daily movement, and consistent sleep. Our protein calculator can give you a daily target based on your body and goals.

What is normal, and when to reach out

Mild nausea, burping, constipation, or loose stools are common early on and usually improve as your body adjusts. Message your care team if side effects are severe, if you cannot keep fluids down, or if you feel intense or persistent stomach pain. Regular check-ins are part of safe treatment – that is exactly what our monthly follow-up consultations are for: dose adjustments, side-effect questions, and keeping your progress on track.

What comes next

Doses are typically increased gradually over the following months, guided by how you respond and how you feel. You can read more about how the full program works on our weight loss treatment page.
